Toy Drive Event, Christmas 2004

Doctor delivers Teddy bears.

"Christmas is a very personal and very hectic time, and it was gratifying to see patients and the community taking the time to do something special for the kids at the surgery center."

JANICE WHITCOMBE (left) is a child life specialist at University Hospital. Dr. Joseph Barry, of Preventive Medicine Associates, is a Camillus physician.

The following report was submitted by Preventive Medicine Associates.

Dr. Joseph Barry, a Camillus physician, delivered more than 150 Teddy bears to University Hospital in time for Christmas.
The bears were part of the drive put on by Barry's office, Preventive Medicine Associates, 5415 W. Genesee St. Patients donated many of the bears.

Barry said his firm also donated a check for an undisclosed amount toward the surgery center's needs.
Giving a Teddy to a child facing surgery makes being in a hospital less traumatic, he said.

' 'Christmas is a very personal and very hectic time, and it was gratifying to see patients and the community taking the time to do something special for the kids at the surgery center,'' Barry said.

What made the drive extra special, the doctor said, was donations from Donna Conway's fourth-grade class at Driver Middle School in Marcellus.
Those youngsters made the Teddy Bear Drive their class project.
